Flinders Island Farmers Market

So I popped in to Bowmans Store today and the lady next to me asked …. “I’ve got a heap of  Zucchini on the front seat of the car.. Do you want some?”

It’s that time of the year again.  Our tomatoes are starting to ripen and the potatoes are flowering as quickly as we’re digging them up. Rogue pumpkins seem to be popping up everywhere and the oregano and thyme are flowering profusely. This year, our gardens on Flinders Island sure are producing well .. and in abundance!

So here at Flinders Island Fresh, we’ve decided to transform the carpark at the Furneaux Tavern, Lady Barron into a Farmers Market. The first will be on Sunday the 15th February and will hopefully be the first of many.

Local community groups are encouraged to join in and for those of you wanting to sell your excess produce, jams, preserves or chutneys, you are cordially invited to setup a stall. Alternately, other options are for you to barter your wares at the Barter Stall or to leave them at the giveaway table at the Good Karma Stall. Yep – we’ve got something for everyone in mind 🙂

You can meet up with some of our our fab local producers & share their island produce –  Sophie Pitchford from Brymworth Garlic Farm, Jon the Juggler & his amazing hot sauces,  Helen Carnell with her Furneaux Coffee, Mick & Liz Grimshaw with Straitwater, Helen Cassidy will be armed with something fresh & White Rabbit Gourmet will surprise… wasabi ice cream anyone? watch this space for more inclusions!

The Farmers Market will run from 10am – 1pm and there’ll be live music from Holly and Sean on the Furneaux Tavern lawn. So make a day of it,  browse the Farmers Market, enjoy a special ‘in season’  Sunday lunch at the Tav and top it off  with a chilled beverage while taking in the view of Franklin Sound … gotta love Island Life!

If you’re interested in having a stall or selling/sharing produce please call Sammi 0421 667 157 or Jo 0407 459 806

PS – Just quietly – The little shack at the front of the tavern (The Tav Shack) will also be the new Flinders Island Fresh HQ – we’re very excited about that!
